French Art Deco Cast Bronze Trivet
$150.00

One of Alyson’s Favorite Foraged Finds

Trivets, used to protect surfaces from hot dishes, have a long history, evolving from simple metal stands to decorative art pieces. During the Art Deco period, which spanned roughly from the 1920s to the 1940s, there was a surge in decorative metalwork, often featuring stylized natural motifs and geometric patterns. Bronze was a popular material for its durability and ability to hold intricate designs, making trivets both functional and aesthetically pleasing additions to the home.

This particular trivet, with its detailed relief of fruits and flowers, exemplifies the Art Deco aesthetic's embrace of natural forms rendered in a sophisticated manner. The oval shape and integrated handles are typical of the era's functional yet elegant design. Such pieces were often produced by skilled artisans and found in well-appointed homes, reflecting the period's emphasis on style and craftsmanship.

Found in Paris, France.
